The power of Learning by Making

In this second issue, we dive into the purpose of education, why making is so important for the development of critical and analytical skills, and how to bring collaborative learning into the classroom.

The magazine features case studies and articles by Professor of Learning Research at MIT Media Lab, Mitchel Resnick, pi-top's Director of Learning and Research, Dr. William Rankin, learning futurist David Price O.B.E, author and educator Cathy Davison and Chief Education and Product Officer at pi-top, Graham Brown-Martin, among others.

What is school for?

Our students are going to face an exciting but uncertain future and education is at the heart of preparing present and future generations to thrive in this transforming world.

As pi-top's Chief Education and Product officer, Graham Brown-Martin, notes in his article 'Why doesn't the education system reflect the modern world?': "In order to have an idea about what our countries are going to be like in the future, we need to know what the purpose of our schools is. At the moment it appears to be content transmission and testing, and that isn't going to produce the kind of innovators we need".

At pi-top we believe schools should move forward from a traditional model of learning based on instructionism to one based on collaboration, making and constructionism, and we're not alone. Educators from around the world share in this issue their experiences using pi-top in their classroom and why they describe our learning by making ecosystem as a game changer.
