The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ boasts a 64-bit quad core processor running at 1.4GHz, dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.2/BLE, faster Ethernet via a separate PoE HAT (phew, that’s a mouthful).

It maintains the same mechanical footprint as both the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B and the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. The price also remains the same as the previous models, meaning that you can enjoy the upgraded pi-top at no extra cost.

Watch this video featuring Roger Thornton and Eben Upton discussing the new features:

What are the key differences between the Pi 3 Model B and Model B+?

New: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+
  • Increased processing power 1.4GHz
  • Enhanced Wireless networking dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless LAN IEEE 802.11.b/g/n/ac
  • Improved Bluetooth 4.2/Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Faster Ethernet networking Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0 – 300Mbps max. throughput
  • Power Over Ethernet capability
Rasberry Pi 3 Model B
  • Processing power 1.2GHz
  • Wireless networking single-band 2.4GHz wireless LAN
  • Bluetooth 4.1 / Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Ethernet networking

So, with all these incremental improvements the Pi 3B+ with its new nifty chips and features runs cooler, streams videos faster and the Raspberry Pi Foundation have been able to tune their clocking and voltage rules for both better peak performance and longer-duration sustained performance.

    1. Hi Martin,
The Pi 3 Model B+ board shares a similar form factor as the Pi 3 and the Pi 2 both of which fit into the original pi-top.
We also suggest you have a look at our video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa0P8jWdD9E&t=1s. In this video we compare the new Raspberry Pi Model 3 B+ with the previous model, the Raspberry Pi Model B. We describe the new features and do some speed tests.
      Many thanks,

  1. Hi
Sorry about my (probably) rude/incorrect english.
Could you explain how to fit the new model on the pi-top 2 case?
I can’t fit correctly because of heat dissipator and appears the power warning on the screen when I turn on the pi-top.
    Thank you

    1. Hi Rafael,
The new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ shares a similar form factor as the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B so the building process is the same.
We suggest you push the cooling bridge down a bit harder. If you still get the power warning message, please contact our support team at support@pi-top.com and they will help you sort this out.
      Many thanks,
      pi-topTEAM
